Last-Chance Trey Lance: Can Cowboys QB Beat Out Cooper Rush In Preseason Finale?
The Trey Lance Watch for the Dallas Cowboys is almost at its conclusion, with the final preseason game against the Los Angeles Chargers now here.
Lance has been a top storyline all offseason, and while he has shown strides from the preseason game to the second, it hasn’t been enough for us to say he’s overtaken Cooper Rush as QB2.
But would another improved performance against the Chargers do it?
Color us skeptical. … but with Jerry Jones saying Lance will definitely be on Dallas’ 53-man roster, what exactly that means for Rush is that he could be cut, and then the Cowboys pick him up after going through waivers.
But back to Lance.
His preseason showings have been a little up and down, but his performance against the Las Vegas Raiders was the best he’s looked all offseason.
But was it enough to usurp Rush?
We have to say no. And that brings us to the Saturday final preseason game against L.A.
Again, Lance is likely to get the majority, if not all, of the offensive snaps as the Cowboys look to see what they have with players on the roster bubble.
Lance has developed a nice connection with rookie Ryan Flournoy and others in preseason, so he will be looking to continue that progression at AT&T Stadium.
And the Cowboys are hoping he finishes the preseason with a bang by putting together four quarters of good, improved football on film – thus making the No. 2 QB decision a difficult one … in a good way.
