Jagat Shiromani Temple- Amer-Jaipur

Jagat Shiromani Mandir is a Hindu temple situated in Amer(Amber)-Jaipur, in the state of Rajasthan. This temple is dedicated to the Hindu gods Meera Bai, Krishna and Vishnu. It was constructed between 1599 and 1608 AD by Queen Kanakwati, who was the wife of King Man Singh I. The temple was built in the memory of their son Jagat Singh.

The temple is considered to be an important part of local history within Amer Town. The temple contains a statue of Krishna which has significance to the Hindu faith. According to religious doctrines, the statue is the same statue that Meera Bai worshipped in the State of Mewar.

It is one of the oldest temples of Amber town. The best specimen of early 17th century Mahameru prasad. It consists of a Sanctum, Vestibule and Mandapa with Projecting screen window on either side the temple stands on a high ornate Adhisthana the three storeyed Garbhagriha is crowned by Shikara which is adorned with successive rows of urusringas and karansringas. The mandap is two-storeyed with lateral transepts on either side. The walls of the upper storey & the ceiling bear paintings while the marble garuda-mandapa in front of the temple is intricately carved; which is the carrier of lord Vishnu. At the entrance of the temple, there is a beautiful marble toran which is flanked by the statue of elephants. The toran is a marvelous part of this temple’s architecture. Several deities are intricately carved rendering it with amazing beauty & Jagat Shiromani temple priest mentioned that this toran was carved out of a single piece of marble. This temple was built in Besar Style. Deity of Shri Vishnu too presides in this temple.

It is said that the statue of Lord Krishna in this temple is the same statue that Meera Bai used to worship in the state of Mewar, 600 years ago. This statue was saved from destruction by rulers of Amer during Mughal war with Mewar state and brought safely to Amer and was installed in a temple. Statue of Meera Bai along with Lord Krishna too is sthapit(installed) here.
Jagat Shiromani temple is very important part of Hindu heritage and Temple Architecture besides its significance from a religious point of view.
