NFL Rumors: Tua Tagovailoa Lost 10-15 Pounds; No ‘Concern’ About Dolphins Contract
Tua Tagovailoa is looking to increase his mobility in 2024.
Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reported the Miami Dolphins quarterback is weighing in at 220 pounds, down 10-15 pounds from last season. Tagovailoa is expected to participate in organized team activities as his agent discusses a long-term contract extension with the Dolphins.
Both sides expect to have a contract in place before the start of the 2024 regular season.

Tagovailoa is currently slated to make $23.1 million while playing out the fifth-year option of his rookie contract. Wolfe noted Tagovailoa is expected to make upwards of $50 million annually on his next contract, so it would have been understandable if he held out until a deal is reached.
Joe Burrow, Jared Goff, Justin Herbert, Lamar Jackson and Jalen Hurts have set the $50 million benchmark for high-quality quarterbacks over the last two offseasons. Goff, in particular, is a near-perfect comp for Tagovailoa’s representation to use in negotiations.
The Detroit Lions quarterback, like Tagovailoa, put up massive stats last season while being somewhat a product of the scheme and elite skill-position players around him. Goff and Tagovailoa are part of a tier that’s not quite worthy of franchise face status but still good enough to win a Super Bowl.
In the modern NFL, that carries a $50 million price tag.
Tagovailoa is coming off the best season of his young NFL career, leading the league with 4,624 passing yards while throwing for 29 touchdowns against 14 interceptions. The Dolphins are 32-19 when Tagovailoa starts and 7-9 when he does not over the last four seasons.
