LeBron James’ freakish longevity, dominance with Lakers on full display after NBA honor
The Los Angeles Lakers‘ playoff season didn’t quite go according to plan with the team losing to the Nuggets in five games, but LeBron James and company aren’t done soaking up the limelight just yet.
The offseason is expected to bring new challenges and opportunities including the possible selection of LeBron’s son Bronny in the 2024 NBA Draft. A news update on Kobe Bryant’s sneaker release had Lakers and NBA fans on the edge of their seats.
On Wednesday, the 2023-2024 All-NBA teams were revealed, and a selection of LeBron James was one of the most exciting of the entire process.
James Named to All-NBA Third Team
James is used to taking up residence on the All-NBA First Team, but ended up being named to the All-NBA Third Team on Wednesday. The honor was considered extra special considering James, whose birthday is December 30, 1984, is 39 years old going on 40 years old.
James averaged 25.7 points and over seven rebounds for the Lakers this past season. He also added 8.3 assists and shot 54 percent from the field, showing his strength on the court in more ways than one.
James’ inclusion on the NBA’s All-NBA Third Team presented by the Kia automotive group was surprising to some, but also an exciting honor for an NBA legend who began his career as the first overall pick of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Anthony Davis, James’ Lakers teammate, made the All-NBA Second Team alongside Anthony Edwards. NBA MVP Nikola Jokic made the first team along with fellow MVP candidates Giannis Antetokounmpo and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
James Honor’s Historical Significance Revealed
The historical significance of James’ honor was revealed recently. James became the oldest player to make an All-NBA team 19 years after he became the youngest to make an All-NBA team.
ESPN’s Sportscenter also gave James his props with a tribute post. It was a well-deserved honor for a player who proved once again that age is just a number, and the Lakers’ reign at or near the top of the Western Conference might not be over just yet.
