Rumors are the Los Angeles Lakers are putting together a package to potentially hire Dan Hurley as their next head coach. With the franchise hoping to retain LeBron James, there is some belief that the future Hall of Famer is playing a role in the head coaching search for LA. The latest rumors possibly reveal James’ actual involvement.

Reports indicate that LeBron James has not been involved with the Lakers’ head coaching search, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN. James apparently has not discussed the potential job with either Dan Hurley or JJ Redick.

“LeBron James has not had any conversations with the Lakers about Dan Hurley or JJ Redick and the coaching search in general for that matter, a source familiar with the situation told ESPN on Thursday.”

Considering James is nearing retirement, his representative claims that LeBron James is on board with the Lakers making a hire that makes sense for the franchise long term and is not tailored around his needs.

“James, through his representatives, has made it clear that the Lakers should do what is best for the organization and is mindful and respectful that the Lakers need to make a decision on a coach that will be with the team beyond his playing career.”

Los Angeles would be smart to hire someone who has coaching experience and has the potential to serve as head coach for the long haul. The Lakers haven’t had much consistency at the position and having a long-term head coach would go a long way in creating a championship-caliber team year in and year out.

We’ll see if the Lakers can pull off hiring Dan Hurley or not. You’d think that’s the type of coach LeBron James would love to play for. But this is going to be a wild offseason for both James and Los Angeles.

Should LeBron James re-sign with the Lakers?

After declining his player option LeBron James is hitting the free agency pool. The Lakers have been rumored to be interested in bringing him back. But is that the best move for James?

Many believe James is going to force his way onto whichever team selects his son in the NBA Draft. That’s a move the Lakers can certainly make. But the franchise is hungry for a championship. The front office must make moves to improve the roster, as LeBron James likely wants at least one more ring before he calls it a career.

Other teams will make a push for LeBron James once the free agency window opens. But the Lakers are definitely in the mix. Remaining with Anthony Davis would be wise, as it would allow the front office to continue building around their big two superstars. Ultimately, re-signing with the Lakers probably makes the most sense for James.
