Warriors release statement thanking Klay Thompson
The Golden State Warriors’ PR account has released the team’s official statement on Klay Thompson’s departure.
Earlier today, it was confirmed that Thompson and the Dallas Mavericks agreed to a three-year $50 million contract, structured around a sign-and-trade deal in which Josh Green was sent to the Charlotte Hornets and the Warriors received two second-round picks (the Mavs’ own 2031 second-round pick and the least favorable of two 2025 picks belonging to the Denver Nuggets and the Philadelphia 76ers).
Thompson’s departure was long rumored and eventually crossed into the realm of inevitable. After extension talks broke down, Thompson chose to explore free agency, with the Mavs, Los Angeles Lakers, Orlando Magic, and Denver Nuggets rumored to be his suitors. Thompson chose the Mavs, linking up with Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving in an attempt to add a fifth ring to his collection — and potentially one-up his now former teammates in Steph Curry and Draymond Green.
