Your Miami Dolphins All-Time Top 5 Draft Picks

A couple of weeks back, I asked for some more ideas to fill out our questions of the day posts until training camp began. The first question that I borrowed came from well-known site member dolphinfan4lyfe.

What is your top five list of the best draft picks of our Miami Dolphins all time?

Below are some of your answers and thoughts on the question of the day-

SuperG! kicks us off with a list that’s impossible to have an issue with.

1. Dan Marino

2. Larry Czonka

3. Zach Thomas

4. Jason Taylor

5. Mark Clayton

sand_in_shoes did not leave off the best center to ever play the game.

Here are mine:

Dan Marino

Larry Csonka

Dwight Stephenson

Jason Taylor

Zach Thomas

Call_for_the_Priest’77 called Marino not only a top-five pick but also one of the all-time draft steals and gave me an additional post idea.

Next we have to come up with the top 5 all time Dolphins draft steals!

Some of our all timers might make this list as well. Dan Marino for example should have gone to nearly every one of the 26 teams ahead of us in the 1983. However, due to a performance decline his final year at U / Pitt, a cocky attitude and perhaps most prejudicial, rumours of illicit drug usage caused him to slide all the way down to us at 27. Was Shula smarter than nearly everyone else ahead of us or was the league simply too stupid to do its homework (Jets fans need not reply)?

Other names will carry less weight to them but may be considered far greater steals than Marino (measuring expected output versus actual output). Total production would have to be considered of course but not necessarily be the paramount consideration.

DaGnome gave us two lists: one of the obvious choices and his personal top five.

Staying away from the obvious:

Dan Marino

Larry Csonka

Jason Taylor

Zach Thomas

Bob Griese

My Top 5: (Loved watching them play)

Tony Nathan

Nat Moore

Mark Clayton

Richmond Webb

OJ McDuffie

DolphinFan85 gives us a list along with a guy that we had thankfully all long ago forgotten about.

Dan Marino, Zach Thomas, Chris Chambers, Cecil Collins, Mark Duper

Dolfriend reminded us that Shula cost the team a first-round pick as punishment for “tampering.” Seems like a more than fair trade.

1. Shula (1st rd pick)

2. Marino

3. Csonka

4. JT

5. Zach Thomas

Dolfanjoe has the beginning of an amazing roster if only these guys could have all played together simultaneously.

1: Marino

2: Dwight Stevenson

3: Zach Thomas

4: Csonka

5: Jason Taylor

But thru the years there have been so many !

Louie the lobster also added Madison.

1. Dan Marino

2. Zach Thomas

3. Mark Duper

4. Jason Taylor

5. Sam Madison

There are many super solid lists, but as one noted, yes, many of the names seem like obvious choices. Thank you again to all of you who show up every evening and take part in our question of the day posts. Join us again tomorrow evening when we serve up another question of the day post.
