Chiefs Injuries: Kelvin Joseph back; Xavier Worthy misses another day
On Wednesday, the Kansas City Chiefs conducted their fourth 2024 training camp practice at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph.
Wide receiver Xavier Worthy missed his third consecutive day of practice with an illness: strep throat. But cornerback Kelvin Joseph — who had missed the last two days of practice for personal reasons — was back on the field.
We saw what appeared to be the first injury of training camp: wide receiver Justin Watson was slow to get up after making a sliding catch during 7-on-7 drills. After being helped up, he made it to the injury tent under his own power. There, trainers were looking at his left leg. He left practice in the cart, riding up the hill to the locker room in the front seat.
UPDATE: 10:58 a.m.: Cornerback Nazeeh Johnson also ended up in the medical tent, where trainers looked at his right knee — the same one he injured a year ago. He also left practice, riding up the hill in the front seat of the cart.
Cornerback Jaylen Watson (labrum), safety Justin Reid (quad), defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi (triceps), defensive end BJ Thompson and left guard Joe Thuney (pectoral) were present, but were without their helmets, working with trainers on the sideline. Defensive end Charles Omenihu was absent. All of these players remain on either the Active/PUP (physically-unable-to-perform) or Active/NFI (non-football injury) lists.
The Chiefs made no roster moves before practice. It now has 91 players under contract and a full complement of 90 players on its active roster. (Offensive tackle Chukwuebuka Godrick has an International Pathway Program roster exemption). We now estimate that the Chiefs have $12.9 million in cap space.
