Unlike Jones, Prescott feels urgency for a new Lamb contract

Outside of a blindside tackle, a great wide receiver is a quarterback’s best friend — especially when that wide receiver is on the level of Dallas Cowboys’ superstar CeeDee Lamb.

Lamb has ascended the NFL wide receiver rankings to become one of the best in the league ever since the Cowboys took him with the 17th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, which makes it a bit confusing to hear owner Jerry Jones say that he’s in no rush to come to new contract terms with his star wide receiver.

The Cowboys picked up Lamb’s fifth-year club option for 2024, but he’ll be an unrestricted free agent in 2025, which has led to him holding out of training camp.

When asked about the hold out and the contract, Jones told Jon Machota of “The Athletic” that he’s not feeling any urgency to get the deal done.

That’s likely a bit of gamesmanship and negotiation from the Dallas owner, because without Lamb the Cowboys’ season is toast before it even begins. Forget the season as a whole, though. Lamb is missing valuable reps at training camp right now, and his quarterback for one, does not seem to happy about that

Dak Prescott, at the very least, is feeling the pressure of not having his star wideout under contract long-term

“I can tell you I got a sense of urgency for it to happen,” Prescott said via David Moore of the “Dallas Morning News”

And as far as Lamb is concerned? Well, he kept his comments brief on social media.

Interesting times are ahead in Dallas. Interesting times, indeed.
