Dolphins fans call for Ryan Tannehill after lackluster preseason QB play

August 12, 2024

A successful start to the preseason was overshadowed by concerns for the Miami Dolphins. A 20-13 victory against the Atlanta Falcons revealed several weaknesses on the roster, but one position stood out above the rest.

Skylar Thompson and Mike White split time at quarterback as Tua Tagovailoa took the night off. Thompson earned the start and completed 8-of-19 passes for 95 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. White wasn’t any better, going 4-of-14 for 26 yards.

The uninspiring quarterback play raised concerns among the fan base, revealing the ugly truth that the team would be in trouble if Tagovailoa were to go down with an injury.

3 Teams That Should Sign Ryan Tannehill

After the game, Dolphins fans were all over X calling for a familiar face. Miami’s 2012 first-round draft pick, Ryan Tannehill, has yet to be claimed following a five-year stint with the Tennessee Titans.

Tannehill has a proven track record. The quarterback spent his initial six seasons with the Dolphins, starting 151 games and leading the squad to a 42-46 record. Tannehill’s 20,434 passing yards rank the third-most among Miami’s all-time quarterbacks, behind only Dan Marino and Bob Griese.

Following the 2018 season, the Dolphins traded Tannehill to the Titans. The former No. 8 overall pick had a successful stint in Nashville, bringing the Titans to the 2020 AFC Championship game. The following year, he recorded 3,819 passing yards and a career-high 33 touchdowns.

His production began to fall off in the years to follow. Midway through the 2023 season, Tannehill was replaced by then-rookie quarterback Will Levis. The veteran quarterback now waits for a destination to wrap up his career — which by the looks of it, could be where it all began.
