The Miami Dolphins have signed former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Anthony McFarland, the team announced on Monday. This is McFarland’s first stop in the NFL after the Steelers.

McFarland spent nearly his entire rookie contract with the Steelers on their active roster and experimenting on the team’s practice squad. The team’s fourth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Maryland, several injuries derailed McFarland’s momentum while he was with the team. Over multiple years, McFarland would start gaining experience and heating up but could never stay healthy.

To rehab his image to the NFL, McFarland headed to the UFL and impressed as the starting running back for the San Antonio Brahmas. With his speed and elusiveness, McFarland was a walking explosive play. He has not been able to show that much in the NFL during the regular season, but has return experience on top of versatility as a receiver and running back.

McFarland has just 146 rushing yards and 87 receiving yards over the four years he spent with the Steelers. However, he fits the Dolphins’ wide zone scheme well with his speed and burst. The Dolphins released running back Salvon Ahmed as the corresponding move to give McFarland a look in the team’s training camp.
