Steph Curry Makes Decision on Future with Golden State Warriors

September 2, 2024

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry doesn’t intend to go anywhere and join a different team … at least that’s what he plans to do.
Curry made that abundantly clear in a conversation with The Circuit host Emily Chang recently. Amid speculations about his future due to the current state of the Warriors, the 36-year-old sharpshooter emphasized that he wants to stay in Golden State
Chang questioned Curry after he surprisingly removed the mention of the Warriors from his Instagram bio and replaced it with “Olympic Gold Medalist.” While the Warriors superstar said he was simply proud of being an Olympian and winning gold in the 2024 Summer Games, many couldn’t help but worry that he was going to ask for a way out of the team.
Curry clarified that he’s committed to the Dubs. And when Chang asked if he’s “here forever,” he responded by saying, “that’s the plan.”
Emily Chang: “I’m not asking him why he took the Warriors off his Instagram.”
Ayesha Curry: “Wait, what?”
Steph: “I was just proud to be an Olympian.”
Emily: “You’re here forever.”
Steph: “That’s the plan.”
Steph Curry showed that commitment when he agreed to a one-year extension with the Warriors worth $62.6 million. That means Curry will be under contract with the team until the 2026-27 season.
For those questioning why it’s only a one-year deal and not something longer, it should be noted that his extension and its terms are the most he can receive due to the NBA’s over-38 rule. This rule dictates that a team can only extend an over-38 player to a one-year deal.
While Curry is only 36, he will already be over 38 by the time his extension kicks in.
