Travis Kelce Gushed Over His and Taylor Swift’s Date at the U.S. Open
The footballer said going for the first time was like being in “a completely different world.”
There is a first time for everything, and for Travis Kelce, attending the U.S. Open alongside Taylor Swift was a brand new experience for him, despite being in the world of sports himself.
On the September 11 episode of the New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce podcast, Travis revealed that his and Swift’s September 8 date at the U.S. Open men’s final match was his first time attending the annual tennis championship.
“It was my first time. My second time going to a tennis match, at least a professional tennis match as big as this one,” the Kansas City Chiefs tight end explained. “This was a completely different world. I looked to my left and my right and every single time I did it, I saw a familiar face. There were so many fucking people there to see the action, especially the final game, knowing that an American was in the US Open, Taylor Fritz.”
Attending the Open required Travis to have a shift in his behavior—he told his brother Jason that “it’s very quiet [during the game] and you know us, when it’s very quiet, we want to say something.” Despite wanting to heckle Italian player Jannik Sinner, who played against Fritz and won, he stayed quiet and noted that he “dressed the part [in Gucci], acted the part” and was “very quiet except for during intermissions when they were playing music.”
“That was about the only time I was really showing my personality,” Travis added, which checks out, as he and Swift were spotted jumping around and singing The Darkness’s track, “I Believe In a Thing Called Love.”
Elsewhere during the podcast, Travis wished Swift well for the next major event on her social calendar–the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, where the pop star is up for 12 awards. “Hopefully she can walk away with some moon men,” he said. “Those are always one of the cooler trophies. The space guys.”
