As the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs gear up for the sixth chapter in the Patrick Mahomes-Lamar Jackson era, let’s look at how their five previous matchups rank.
#5. 2020 Week 3 Showdown (09/28/20): Chiefs 34 – Ravens 20
This game is easily the most forgettable of the series, as the Chiefs pretty much dominated from start to finish. Baltimore made a slight come back in the final period, but this was Kansas City’s game to lose. Jackson also had a relatively lackluster performance through the air with just 97 passing yards and one touchdown.
#4. 2024 AFC Championship Game (01/28/24): Chiefs 17 – Ravens 10
Yes, this game was crucial to decide who plays in the Super Bowl. However, it was mostly a defensive slugfest with very little to highlight. A second half that featured just three points and few memorable moments outside Jackson’s completion to himself.
#3. Battle of Early-Season MVP Frontrunners (09/22/19): Chiefs 33 – Ravens 28
This game was one of many electric performances in Jackson’s 2019 unanimous MVP season. It was one of just two Ravens losses all season, with a few questionable two- point conversion attempts making the difference. But more fans probably remember the incredible throws Jackson made to Seth Roberts and Willie Snead IV to keep the game alive.
#2. Chiefs’ Final Efforts Combat Ravens Comeback (12/09/18): Chiefs 27 – Ravens 24
A matchup so jam-packed with action it had to be decided in overtime. The Ravens nearly came up victorious after trailing by seven in the third. It took Kansas City two fourth down conversions in the final quarter to escape, including a 48-yard catch by Tyreek Hill on 4th-and-9. Crazy but true: if the Chiefs didn’t convert on this catch, they likely lose out on being the No. 1 seed that season.
#1. Lamar’s First Win Against Chiefs (09/19/21): Ravens 36 – Chiefs 35
No surprise that Jackson’s sole win against Kansas City tops this list. But it wasn’t Jackson getting a win that makes this the best, it’s the competitive nature of the matchup that makes it the most entertaining of this series.
