According to the NFL’s official transactions report, Kansas City Chiefs left guard Joe Thuney has passed his physical, making him eligible to come off the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.

After starting all 17 regular-season games and the team’s Wild Card round win over the Miami Dolphins, Thuney suffered a pectoral injury during the Divisional round game against the Buffalo Bills. Nick Allegretti took over for Thuney and would eventually play through the Super Bowl despite mixed reports that Thuney may be available for the game.

In head coach Andy Reid’s initial training camp media address, he sounded optimistic about Thuney.

“Joe’s doing great, and he’s close-close,” said Reid at the time. “I don’t think it will be, but we’ll see. We’ll just see how it goes.”

During the times Thuney has appeared at training camp, he has worked off to the side with athletic trainers. In the meantime, Mike Caliendo has filled in for the three-time All-Pro.

It should be expected that the Chiefs will be cautious as Thuney returns in the coming days, especially considering there is still more than a month until opening day.
