Cowboys and WR CeeDee Lamb Had “Promising Talks” About New Contract

August 21, 2024

The Dallas Cowboys’ star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is still holding out in attempts to get an extension. However, according to Cowboys’ owner and general manager Jerry Jones, this might not be the case for much longer as the two sides had “promising talks” about a new contract.

Speaking about Lamb’s holdout, Jones said that he is optimistic about striking an agreement with Lamb and believes the two sides will “come together” soon.

“I don’t mean that to be insensitive to our fans or to CeeDee, but we’re in good shape there and we are having promising talks,” Jones said. “You say, ‘Well, why do you keep talking? Why don’t you do something?’ Again, as in anything, it takes both of you there at the same time.”

Lamb is currently set to play in 2024 on the fifth-year rookie option that is set to pay him just under $18 million. The Cowboys and Lamb have been talking about an extension for a while now, but reports indicate that the two sides still remain apart when it comes to financial terms.

Reportedly, the Cowboys’ most recent offer would make Lamb the second highest-paid wideout in the league. Minnesota Vikings’ Justin Jefferson is currently the highest-paid WR, with a $35 million annual salary and $110 million in guaranteed money.

It is unclear whether CeeDee Lamb is looking to match Jefferson’s deal or surpass him. The Oklahoma product is coming off his best season as a pro, leading the league with 135 catches and getting a career-high 1,749 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. Lamb earned his third-straight Pro Bowl selection and received a First-team All-Pro nod last season.
