Cowboys Jerry Jones Facing Intense Backlash Following NFL Controversy

September 12, 2024

Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones is facing growing criticism from New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, sparked by a long-standing rivalry between the two NFL legends.
The tension centers around their differing legacies, with Kraft believing his consistent success as an NFL owner is being overshadowed by Jones’ flamboyant style and prominence – ultimately preventing him from entering the NFL Hall of Fame.
Jones purchased the Cowboys in 1989 for $140 million, quickly transforming the franchise into a financial and cultural powerhouse, earning the nickname “America’s Team.”
Under his ownership, the Cowboys won three Super Bowls in the early 1990s and
have since become the most valuable sports franchise in the world, currently worth over $9 billion. This business and on-field success earned Jones a place in the Hall of Fame in 2017, a moment that struck a nerve with Kraft.
“He hasn’t been to the NFC title game in two decades, and he gets in?” Kraft reportedly said in a recent ESPN report by Don Van Natta Jr. “How does that work?”
This has ignited a quiet rivalry between the two owners, who have both left indelible marks on the NFL, though in very different ways. Jones is known for his
showmanship, personified by the construction of the lavish AT&T Stadium, also known as “Jerry World.”

Kraft, on the other hand, is more reserved and strategic, having quietly built the New England Patriots into the most successful NFL franchise of the past two decades.
Since 2002, the Patriots have appeared in nine Super Bowls, winning six.
The Patriots’ owner is said to believe in the report that Hall of Fame voters were swayed by Jones’ larger-than-life persona rather than the steady contributions Kraft made to the league’s success.
While Jerry Jones’ flair has already cemented his place in the Hall of Fame, Robert Kraft, despite his undeniable success, will have to keep waiting for the recognition he feels is long overdue.
