Dallas Cowboys bold prediction sees massive change after down season

May 29, 2024

Jerry Jones and Dak Prescott

The Dallas Cowboys have had some very talented rosters over the past few years, yet the team has been unable to get over the hump in the Mike McCarthy era. In each of the last three seasons, the Cowboys have made the playoffs but have just one win in the postseason in that span.

That has rightly led to fans getting restless with their head coach, and with the overall situation with the franchise — and that wasn’t helped after what was a very quiet offseason for a team with big aspirations in 2024.

In a recent article listing 10 bold predictions for teams around the league, NFL.com analyst Judy Battista says the Cowboys will make the playoffs despite not winning the division, but will be bounced early.

She then predicts that Jerry Jones will go on to hire Bill Belichick in 2025. Here’s exactly what she wrote:

The Cowboys lose the NFC East, make an early playoff exit, fire Mike McCarthy and hire Bill Belichick for 2025. This doesn’t even really seem like that bold a prediction. The Cowboys have had a startlingly quiet offseason, while the Eagles have upgraded their roster. The Cowboys have enough talent, including Dak Prescott, to make the playoffs as a wild card, but with another early playoff exit in the offing, Jerry Jones does what many expected him to do this offseason: let Mike McCarthy go. McCarthy is coaching in the final year of his contract, so that won’t even be a surprise. Neither will Jones hiring Bill Belichick. It’s still bizarre that Belichick doesn’t have an NFL job, and it feels a little like owners overthought things a little bit. If you have a talented roster and need someone to address details and mindset, Belichick is your guy. He won’t coach for long — maybe a few years — but Jones can figure out a succession plan after he finally hoists another Lombardi Trophy.

As Battista notes, this prediction does not feel that bold.

We can totally see the Cowboys taking a step back and not winning the division. At the very least, another early playoff exit could very well be in the cards.

Hiring Bill Belichick is totally a move Jerry would make, although the dynamic between the two when it comes to power would be something to monitor. That said, Belichick would have a field day with the talent on defense.
