On Tuesday, the Warriors dropped an 8-minute highlight reels of what they call ‘Super Dario Dimes,’ or a compilation of impressive passes by veteran big man Dario Šarić over the course of the 2023-24 season.

This unexpected post left fans confused as to why the Warriors would post a player no longer on their roster, however, the NBA season is actually still under way, with the third game of the Finals on tonight. Šarić is under contract with the Warriors until July 1st, when free agency begins. He is expected to seek the veteran minimum contract again, but knowing the Homie (and being his unofficial PR agent), I personally have a feeling he’s going to go out seeking more than that. Last season, he held out on signing with the Warriors on the off chance that the Miami Heat would land Damian Lillard and seek to create a superteam with himself, Dame Time, and Jimmy Butler.

“The beginning of the season was good, I had time on the floor, helped the team and brought some good things. After the All-Star break it wasn’t perfect anymore, I couldn’t get time on the floor, I wasn’t really part of the rotation, that’s how it went,” Šarić told HRT Sport in April. “It’s still too fresh for me to think about how it happened. At the beginning of the season, I didn’t expect things to go in this direction, but that’s how it is in basketball, sometimes doors open, sometimes they close. It’s just the way it is, I can’t be angry, it won’t change the facts.”

This summer, Stepback ŠiŠi will be leading the Croatian National Team through the Olympic circuit as their team captain. This will be his second Olympics, having missed the 2021 Tokyo games with a torn ACL.

There is a case for the Warriors to keep Dario. With Kevon Looney’s future with Golden State on uncertain terms, they’ll need a big man, anyway. They already needed more big men this season, sending out forwards like Draymond Green and Trayce Jackson-Davis at center against big-heavy lineups frequently. They need a center somewhere — preferably somebody taller and more defensive than Dario, even — but on the off-chance they decide to go small-ball, and keep everyone’s favorite peepaw Chris Paul, Šarić would be a cheap and fitting choice.

Regardless, the Warriors know that Dario can pass. He can pass to Chris Paul, to Steph Curry, to Bojan Bogdanović, to Joel Embiid, to Devin Booker — really, he can pass to whoever he needs to. If not with the Warriors, he will find a home somewhere, whether that’s in the NBA or otherwise. Even if that’s not with the Warriors, I’ll be writing for Golden State of Mind unless they decide to trade me with him.
