The Miami Dolphins announced on Tuesday that former Virginia Tech defensive tackle Mario Kendricks signed with the franchise. Kendricks is the third player to earn a spot on the 90-man roster following rookie minicamp, joining former Wisconsin defensive back Jason Maitre and former Rutgers offensive lineman Ireland Brown

Kendricks was also invited to the Kansas City Chiefs minicamp but signed with Miami after totaling 67 tackles, seven sacks, and batted three passes over five seasons with the Hokies.

He appeared in 67 games with 20 starts at Virginia Tech. Kendricks closed his senior season with 16 tackles and 4.5 tackles for a loss in 13 games played. Since the beginning of 2022, he has started 14 games, recording 9.5 TFLs and 2.5 sacks.

At 6 feet tall and weighing 294 pounds, Kendricks joins a franchise that has already signed a handful of defensive tackles since free agency began. Zach Sieler will headline Miami’s defense in the trenches, but plenty of snaps remain up for grabs in the defensive rotation after Christian Wilkins took his talents to the Las Vegas Raiders earlier this offseason.

Rookie minicamp concluded over the weekend but we’ll start to get an idea of what defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver is planning for the trenches as offseason team activities heat up in the coming weeks.
