Dolphins Release Veteran Tight End

The Miami Dolphins still have a couple of days to put their 53-man roster together.

Just like every team, they will have to part ways with dozens of players from their roster to trim it almost by half.

With that in mind, they’ve already made some moves.

According to a report by Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, the Dolphins have decided to cut ties with veteran TE Jody Fortson.

The 28-year-old veteran went undrafted out of Valdosta State in 2019.

He signed with the Kansas City Chiefs and even made the roster.

However, a torn left Achilles in 2021 halted his development.

The Chiefs still brought him back for the 2022 campaign, and he returned again on an exclusive rights deal for the previous campaign.

Unfortunately, he spent the entire season on Injured Reserve (IR), so he wasn’t eligible to play.

The Chiefs declined to tender Fortson during restricted free agency, opening up the door for him to join Mike McDaniel’s team on a one-year deal.

The last time he was healthy, back in 2022, he made 13 appearances for the Chiefs, logging nine receptions for 108 yards and two touchdowns, serving mostly as depth behind Travis Kelce.

Notably, this wasn’t the only veteran the Dolphins let go today.

Per reports, they also decided to move on from QB Mike White, who lost plenty of ground to Skylar Thompson during training camp and the preseason.

The roster is taking shape, but the Dolphins will have to make some tough decisions before the start of the season.
