Drew Rosenhaus: Miami Dolphins to host free agent EDGE Yannick Ngakoue

Emmanuel Ogbah isn’t the only pass-rusher the Miami Dolphins will summon to Miami Gardens on Monday afternoon as the team looks to replace veteran Shaquill Barrett. According to his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, free agent outside linebacker Yannick Ngakoue will also work out with the Dolphins on Monday.

Ngakoue, 29, played for the Bears in 2023, where he recorded 22 tackles, seven quarterback hits, and four sacks while starting 13 games in the Windy City. Since being selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the 69th pick (nice) in the 2016 NFL Draft, Ngakoue has started 115 games for six different teams. During those nine seasons, he’s sacked the quarterback 69 times (nice), including 142 quarterback hits.

Both Ngakoue and Ogbah will work for the Dolphins on Monday after Barrett abruptly retired ahead of the start of Miami’s mandatory minicamp. As you can expect, his retirement left the Dolphins with a void at outside linebacker. A void that the team will hope to fill with a more experienced pass-rusher.

After all, the team has plenty of young players who are hungry and anxiously chomping at the bit, like rookies Mo Kamara, Chop Robinson, and Grayson Murphy. But what the team needs is a well-rounded veteran presence who can be called upon during the early part of the season, when the Dolphins will (likely) be without Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips.

Could that be former Miami Dolphins pass-rusher Emmanuel Ogbah? Or will the younger, more productive Ngakoue be the direction Miami turns? Maybe there will be other players involved in this workout that catch the eyes of the Dolphins football brass. Whatever the case, with less than 48 hours to go before the Miami Dolphins 2024 campaign starts, finding the right veteran pass-rusher is of the utmost importance — even if they do still need to be their franchise quarterback.

What are your thoughts on the Miami Dolphins hosting veteran free agents Emmanuel Ogbah and Yannick Ngakoue? Do you have a preference between the two players? Do you think Chop Robinson or Mohamed Kamara will make an impact early on in 2024? Let us know in the comments section below!
