Nikola Jokic Perfectly Embodies Gru From ‘Despicable Me’

Where the Minions at? 😉

It’s not like he’s a fashion icon so the Gru outfit isn’t too far removed…

There are like 45 Despicable Me/Minions movies but Universal Pictures is still making a killing on the franchise. With Despicable Me 4 coming out soon, the studio has started to pick up its PR campaign. One of the biggest gets appears to be Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic.

I’m not sure if this was a thing before but people are realizing that Jokic shares a resemblance with Gru from Despicable Me. The main character from the franchise has become a pop culture icon and now Jokic is going to be synonymous with him.

Nikola Jokic Dresses up as Gru

Ahead of the Nuggets’ Game 1 playoff game against the Lakers, Nikola Jokic was seen wearing a striped scarf and black zip-up jacket that is identical to what Gru wears in the Despicable Me movies. That wasn’t an accidental fashion choice.

StatsMuse has now been using a picture of Gru for all of their Jokic stats.

Jokic isn’t one to want to be involved in much NBA news so Universal must’ve cut him a pretty big check. Honestly, it’s not like he’s a fashion icon so the Gru outfit isn’t too far removed from what he’s usually wearing. If I were him and I didn’t care about fashion, I’d have everybody pay to wear whatever they want.

The marketing campaign certainly hasn’t affected his performance in the NBA playoffs. The Nuggets are up 2-0 on the Lakers. He had 32 points in Game 1 and then a triple-double in Game 2. As a Lakers fan, I can’t stand him and he drives me crazy but he’s just so damn good at basketball.

Part of me wonders if he’s ever even seen a Despicable Me film. Jokic does have a young daughter so perhaps he has but she’s only two so she might not be old enough yet. I doubt he sought these movies out on his own but who knows? He’s a weird guy.
