Phinsider Question Of The Day: Is He On The Hotseat? W/Poll

I am guilty. I am guilty of watching all the NFL talk shows, other talking heads, and podcasts on YouTube, especially those based on our Miami Dolphins. During the offseason, when little is going on outside of some mini-camps, they all have to come up with something to talk about every day, even on those days when there is pretty much zero news coming out of the NFL or Dolphins. Inevitably, one of the top subjects at this time of year is which NFL coach is on the hot seat heading into the next season. It has been nice to go through the last two seasons without mentioning the Dolphins coach in any of the segments. Well, I guess the honeymoon for Mike McDaniel is over, at least with the media.

Sure, as the sun rose, his name was in the discussion. I have now seen McDaniel mentioned twice as someone on the hot seat and once as someone who might be. The prevailing opinion that has led some to believe this is the Dolphins’ lack of success. Never mind that it’s a massive improvement to even reach the playoffs, let alone in back-to-back seasons. Losing in each is not enough, they believe. Beyond that, they believe that Phins owner Stephen Ross, who has spent a ton of money on player acquisition and is going to need to see further progress, aka win at least one playoff game, for him not to begin to look for a new head coach of his football team.

So tonight’s Phinsider question of the day is: do you think that the Miami Dolphins head coach, Mike McDaniel, is on the hot seat this season if he does not either take the team further in the playoffs or, worse, regresses in some way? What would it take to keep Ross from considering moving on from McDaniel after three seasons?
