Proposed trade sends Dejounte Murray to Warriors

The Golden State Warriors are expected to upgrade their roster this summer. Andrew Wiggins is seen as a potential trade chip. Chris Paul’s future remains a mystery, and Klay Thompson’s impending free agency is still a major talking point. Nevertheless, Mike Dunleavy Jr. has multiple avenues he can explore while trying to improve the current rotation.

In a recent article, Bleacher Report’s Grant Hughes proposed a trade that would see Dejounte Murray head to the Warriors with Wiggins and future draft assets heading to the Atlanta Hawks. Murray would drastically improve the Warrior’s perimeter defense and give the roster another on-ball rim threat due to his ability to penetrate off the dribble and get downhill.

“Golden State onboards a player in Murray who could offset the possible departures of both Klay Thompson and Chris Paul while shielding Stephen Curry from the toughest defensive matchups,” Hughes reasoned. “He’d also allow the Dubs to sell the idea that they’re still intent on contending without nuking the young core by trading Jonathan Kuminga, Brandin Podziemski or anyone else who might play a big role on the post-Curry version of the team.”

Wiggins hasn’t been at his best over the last two seasons. As such, it would make sense for the Warriors to try and cash in on him via trade. Murray would add defense, playmaking and reliable interior scoring. He has also proven he can exist next to a sharpshooting guard, having spent the past two seasons playing next to Trae Young.

The Warriors have been linked with acquiring Murray. Hughes trade package would be logical for both sides. Still, there’s no telling whether it would be enough to get a deal over the line.
