Ravens already sound like they aren’t ready to beat the Chiefs in Week 1

AFC Championship - Kansas City Chiefs v Baltimore Ravens

The Kansas City Chiefs are a tough team to stop. That’s been made crystal clear with their back-to-back Super Bowl victories and six straight AFC Championship appearances. The Baltimore Ravens are aware of how good the Chiefs are, especially when you consider that they lost to them in the most recent AFC title game despite being the hosts for that match-up.

Well, the Ravens get to travel to GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium for Week 1 and witness the third banner night in five years for the team. A football game will take place after and the Ravens defense has a plan that they’re planning to roll out against the Chiefs.

When asked how the Ravens defense plans to slow down Patrick Mahomes and the KC offense, linebacker Roquan Smith answered with a bizarre “Stop the run and make them one-dimensional.”

Do the Ravens even want to win this game?

Normally, defenses go into games against the Chiefs not wanting to see Mahomes throw against them time and time again. Last year might have been a little different considering how bad his wide receivers were but you’re talking about the best quarterback in the league who has shown time and time again that if you give him an opportunity at the end of the game, he WILL make you pay.

Maybe Smith is simply saying something different so the Chiefs go all-in with the passing game but even then, why would you want Mahomes having those kinds of opportunities against you? Teams’ goals against the Chiefs should be to limit Mahomes and make them rely on the run.

Then again, why would Chiefs Kingdom complain about this if this does end up being Baltimore’s game plan? If the Ravens want to allow Mahomes to take over the game and throw the ball all over the field, let them. That will just make it that much easier to score and hopefully walk away with a win.
