Roquan Smith sends warning to Chiefs tight end: ‘He better watch himself, I’ll see him when I see him’

The Baltimore Ravens fell inches (literally) short of potentially knocking off the back-to-back Super Bowl champions, Kansas City Chiefs in the first game of the 2024 NFL season on Thursday night. Reigning league MVP Lamar Jackson found tight end Isaiah Likely, in the back of the end-zone as time expired to bring the Ravens within one of the Chiefs, however the tip of Likely’s right foot was touching the white out-of-bounds paint, meaning the pass was incomplete and the Ravens last-second comeback was all-for-not.

It was what fans all hoped for in a kick-off game between two of the league’s juggernauts and perhaps the two best quarterbacks in the entire league in Jackson and Patrick Mahomes. Despite the gaudy stats for Jackson and Mahomes, the game in its entirety wasn’t too pretty with several penalties, big hits, and a bunch of chirping between both teams would cloud an otherwise terrific contest.

During the fourth quarter, Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith sent Mahomes to the ground after the three-time Super Bowl winning signal caller already stepped out-of-bounds. The push from Smith caused an uproar on Kansas City’s sideline, who were looking for a penalty call, however, Chiefs tight end Peyton Hendershot shoved Smith to the ground on the sidelines, following the play.

Hendershot shoved Smith after he pushed Patrick Mahomes out of bounds in the 4th quarter. No penalty was called.

Smith didn’t forget what happened after his tangle up with Mahomes, as the Pro Bowl linebacker mentioned in his post-game press conference:

“He [Mahomes] flopped, that’s why the referees didn’t call it, it was a great no call by the ref. But, whoever 88 is, I don’t know who he is, but he better watch himself. He did a little slick push, whoever number 88 is, I have no idea who he is, but I’ll see him when I see him,” Smith warned.

If Thursday night is any indication, the possibility of Smith seeing Hendershot again this season may be pretty likely as both clubs looked the part of two teams who met in the AFC Championship game just eight months ago, and could find themselves there once again in just a matter of months.
