Where You Rank Tyreek Hill

Happy Anniversary; Tyreek Hill traded to Miami Dolphins one year ago today - The Phinsider

Last week, I discussed the NFL players ranking Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill as the number one player in the entire league. I couldn’t help but wonder if the Phins fan base saw it the same way. I knew that as much as I love what Hill brings to the Dolphins, which is nothing short of making the offense go at times, I doubt I would select him first overall if I were building a team from scratch, but that might be a different argument. I then asked the following question:

Do you think Tyreek Hill is the best overall player in the NFL, and if so, why? If not, who do you have in that top spot, and where would Tyreek fall under that person?

Below are some of your answers and thoughts on the question of the day-

SuperG! seems to suggest that Mahomes might be the number one guy, I think.

Well, Mahomes has already been MVP, voted number 1 in the NFL Top 100 and has 3 SB rings. So really, which one is better?

Spok507 is not one to argue with mostly giant human beings.

Far be it for me to disagree with the NFL players who voted, so yes, Hill is #1. He’s a player who changes the game and makes defenses always account for him. I still believe that’s why they went after him and Waddle in that Titans game so hard last season — with the intention of taking them out. Stop Hill and you level the playing field against the Fins. Stop Waddle as well and you stop the offense cold. But yes, Hill deserves #1. He give his all every time he steps on the field, doesn’t take plays off and forces defenders to deal with him even if he’s not the focus. Very glad he’s a Dolphin. I have no problem with him being voted #1 over Jackson and Mahomes. Tired of QBs getting all the praise, especially when it’s a team game. They touch the ball every play, but they need the rest of the team to make things happen, and Hill does that in spades.

SlayerNation1 says Mahomes is not the best, at least last season.

As a point of order, Mahomes was passed over as #1 twice last season, by two different factions:

-the players chose Hill

-the MVP voters chose Lamar

Mahomes is great, the Defense won them the championship last season. That is what the voting reflects.

The best player for a particular season doesn’t always win it all. Mahomes, was not the best player last season.

VolFaninFla says he’s a top 5 wideout, but beyond that, nah…

He’s definitely a top 5 WR but “not” the #1 player in the league.

Grmtfinfan says Mahomes is his guy, you know, given a choice.

I would take Mahomes over Hill. I don’t care about the stats of the regular season. I want a player that elevates his game against the best teams and in the playoffs. Hill disappeared against both. Don’t get me wrong Hill is a great player and one to build a team around but IMO I would take Mahomes first. He has done more with less talent around him.

glen55 says yeah, maybe?

I don’t think there is a clear-cut #1, but Hill deserves it as much as anybody and he plays a premium position, so it’s hard to argue with the rating.

daytonadolfan says he still needs to validate his ticket to the Super Bowl for the Dolphins! Correct!

I’d say he is the #1 player in the NFL, He now needs to validate that and lead us to the Super bowl and beyond ! Oh and try not to get tackled so hard this year , we need you to go all out , all season !

SlayerNation1 was working overtime, giving us two answers, and thinks that timing has a lot to do with who is voted where. Good point!

Yes it is legitimate. Mahomes Is the best QB. KC has been able to win the last 2 SBs because of Tyreek’s greatness as much as Mahomes’.

Tyreek was already great, which is how KC received so much draft capital. KC used it properly on nice Defensive pieces which made enough plays to eke out 2 SBs, more power to them.

What nobody saw coming was Tyreek going next level in Miami. That is why all the talking heads are crying… they all predicted Tyreek becoming irrelevant with Tua.

Also, why can’t people wrap their heads around the timing of the voting? Tyreek was on a record pace in November and Mahomes was still trying to figure out how to score points in the second half of games.

DolphinFan85 likes to follow the greats when they are on the field. Let’s hope that Hill creates far less news after retirement than the other two players mentioned.

Just like OJ Simpson and LT my eyes follow him when he is on a football field.Seems a level above other players on the field.A great face of the team for the Dolphins and a player who defines modern football in 24.

darrel.owen correctly points out how Hill might be the most dangerous player in the NFL.

Hill is a game-changer. DCs MUST account for him on every play. He’s one touch away from a touchdown on any given play and can take ordinary passes the distance. He makes everyone around him better. Is he better than Mahomes? Would I rather have Hill or Mahomes? I think that’s a tough call. I do know there’s no other player besides Mahomes that I’d consider as good as Hill. Let’s just say that I’m really happy Hill is a Dolphin.

Dolfanjoe says Hill stands alone at the top of the NFL mountain.

Hill is a phenomenal athlete. Mahomes is the best QB out there by far and a great athlete also, but not in Hill’s category. # 1 receiver in my opinion, and most likely could have played many positions and done one hell of a job at it ! You do have to put a player with his talent at the top. lets hope Tua makes him and the others shine this year ! I for one am looking at the chance that our running backs outshine the receiving corp. This would be one hell of a victory for us !

The consensus seems to be that the honor of best overall player in the NFL is deserved by Hill. He certainly takes this Miami Dolphins team to another level. Thank you to each of you who read the question of the day and answered the question. I apologize that there was no post last evening. I was out of town trying to get back home and falsely believed that I would be back in time to write a post.
